How to mark attendance in Zoho People
To mark attendance in Zoho People on the web, go to Attendance > My Data > Attendance Summary and click the green Check-in button when you start work, then the red Check-out button when you finish. In the Zoho People mobile app, open the Attendance tab (or the home screen widget) and tap Check In; the app records your GPS location or a photo if your company requires it.
If you forgot to check in or out, you don't mark attendance again for that day. You raise a regularization request, and your manager approves it. Both flows are covered below, along with on-duty requests for days spent at a client site.
Attend Mitra isn't affiliated with Zoho; we make a competing attendance app, and the steps below come from Zoho People's own help pages. Your HR admin decides which options appear, so some buttons may be missing or renamed in your company's setup.
Zoho People check-in on the web
Office staff usually check in from a laptop browser. Zoho's employee handbook describes this flow:
- Sign in to Zoho People with your work email and password (or your company's single sign-on).
- Click Attendance in the left bar, then open My Data > Attendance Summary.
- Click the green Check-in button. Your check-in time appears on the day's timeline.
- Click the red Check-out button when your day ends.
- If your company tracks breaks, checking out during office hours may start a break counter; check in again when you return.
Mark attendance in the Zoho People mobile app
The Zoho People app is on Android (Google Play) and iPhone (App Store). Zoho's mobile help guide lists these steps:
- Open the app, enter your work email and tap Next, then enter your password and tap Sign In. If your company uses SSO, you'll be sent to its login page.
- Allow location access when the app asks; without it, attendance may not be recorded.
- Go to the Attendance tab, or use the Zoho People widget on your home screen.
- Tap Check In. If your company requires location, the app captures your GPS coordinates; if it requires a photo, the front camera opens.
- Tap Check Out when your work day ends.
How to check attendance in Zoho People
On the web, Attendance > My Data > Attendance Summary shows your hours worked and check-in/check-out timeline. Switch between the days and hours views, use the cycle icon to move between periods, or click List View and pick a day to see its punches. If face recognition is turned on, the profile icon shows the images captured at check-in. Audit History on the same page lists every change made to your records, including edits by your manager.
In the app, the Attendance tab shows weekly or monthly records. Each entry has check-in time, check-out time, total hours and status; tap an entry for the details.
Managers handle requests from their reportees, can raise requests on their behalf and can see their team's attendance and shifts. Admins also have attendance reports. Which views a manager gets depends on the roles and permissions your HR admin has set.
Zoho People attendance regularization and on-duty requests
Regularization corrects a day where your punches are missing or wrong. On the web:
- Go to Attendance > My Data > Regularization.
- Click Add Request.
- Enter the date, the correct time range, a reason and a short description.
- Submit. Once your manager approves, Zoho People updates your attendance automatically.
- In the app, open Attendance, select Regularization, tap Add, choose the date, enter the correct check-in and check-out times and a reason, then tap Submit.
- For work away from the office, use On Duty instead: in the app open Attendance > On Duty > Add, pick the date(s), the on-duty type and a reason, then Submit. On the web, the Request button under Attendance > My Data offers Permission and On-duty where your policy allows them.
Which Zoho People plans include attendance
Attendance is not part of every Zoho People edition. On Zoho's feature comparison page in October 2026, attendance tracking (web, mobile and facial recognition), People Kiosk, biometric integrations, regularization, overtime, IP restrictions and geo restrictions (Zoho Maps or Google Maps) are ticked from the Professional edition upward. The Free and Essential HR editions don't include attendance.
So if your company is on the free plan, there's no check-in button to find. Our guide to Zoho People's free plan, trial and prices has the details, and the 10-tool attendance software comparison puts Zoho People's prices next to other Indian options.
Zoho People attendance not working? Things to check
- Check-in button missing: your edition may not include attendance, or the admin hasn't enabled web or mobile check-in for your role.
- Check-in blocked on the web: your company may allow check-in only from office IP addresses. Connect to the office network or ask HR.
- Check-in blocked on the phone: location permission is off or you're outside the allowed area. Turn on location, and in the app's Settings > Location Settings turn on Improve Location Accuracy, which uses Wi-Fi and mobile networks along with GPS.
- Camera check fails: allow camera permission and retake the photo in good light.
- Can't log in: use the same work email your company registered. Password resets and SSO problems go to your Zoho People admin.
- Punch missing from the summary: raise a regularization request rather than checking in again. The attendance regularization process explains how most Indian companies approve these.
- App behaving oddly: update it from the Play Store or App Store, then sign out and back in.
Doing the same in Attend Mitra, and who might switch
Attend Mitra prices attendance as a module: ₹29 per employee per month, or ₹41.40 with face, GPS and Wi-Fi verified clock-in, before 18% GST, with a 14-day free trial and no free-forever plan. It suits field, factory and multi-site teams that mainly want verified mobile attendance and leave. If your company already runs on Zoho apps, or needs deep performance and learning tools, Zoho People keeps everything in one place. For other apps, see our hub on marking attendance in popular HR apps.
If you're comparing tools, here's the equivalent flow in Attend Mitra. Employees clock in from the Android or iOS app, and punches made without a network sync when the phone is back online:
- Open the Attend Mitra employee app and sign in.
- Slide the Clock In control on the home screen.
- Complete the face check, stay inside the GPS geofence or connect to office Wi-Fi, if your company turned those checks on.
- Slide again to clock out. The full steps are in our mobile clock-in help article.
