How to apply leave in Zoho People
To apply leave in Zoho People on the web, click Leave in the left bar, then Apply Leave. Choose the leave type and dates, pick a half day or hours if your policy allows it, add a reason and click Submit. In the mobile app, go to My Space > Leave, tap Apply Leave, fill the same details, tap Preview and then Submit.
Your request goes to your manager by email and push notification, and the form shows your balance before and after the leave, so you know where you stand before you submit.
Attend Mitra isn't affiliated with Zoho; we make a competing attendance and leave app, and these steps come from Zoho People's own help documentation. Leave types, half-day options and approval rules are set by your HR admin, so your screen may differ.
Apply leave in Zoho People on the web
- Click the Leave icon in the left bar. Zoho's employee guide also gives the path Leave > Views > Apply Leave.
- Select the Leave Type, for example casual, sick or earned leave as named by your company.
- Pick the date or date range.
- If the leave type allows it, choose an hour-based option, or a half day (first or second half) or quarter day, depending on your permissions.
- Add a team email address to let colleagues know you'll be away, and enter a reason if it's mandatory.
- Check the balance before and after this leave shown on the form; click Balance after booked leave to see individual transactions.
- Click Submit.
- Shortcut: on your leave or attendance calendar, click an absence record to apply leave for that exact day.
Apply leave from the Zoho People mobile app
The Android and iPhone apps follow nearly the same flow, with an added step to attach a document, which helps with medical certificates for sick leave:
- Open the app and go to My Space > Leave.
- Tap Add or Apply Leave.
- Select the leave type, then the start and end dates. Choose the half-day option if it's offered.
- Enter a reason if your policy requires one and attach supporting documents if asked.
- Tap Preview, then Submit.
How to check leave balance in Zoho People
On the web, Leave > My Data > Leave Summary lists every leave policy that applies to you with its balance, plus recent absences, upcoming holidays and past leave. There's also a Leave Balance report showing your balance by leave type as a chart or table, in days or hours.
In the app, go to My Space > Leave and tap Leave Balance (or Home > More > Leave > My Data > Leave Balance). It shows the available, used and pending balance for each leave type. If a balance looks wrong, for example earned leave hasn't been credited this month, ask HR to check the accrual settings; our explainer on earned leave rules in India covers how most companies credit it.
Comp off, leave grant and on duty in Zoho People
Indian teams often work a Sunday or holiday and take a day off later. Zoho People handles this as compensatory off, which only appears if your organisation has turned it on:
- Go to Leave > Compensatory off and click Add Request.
- Enter the date you worked and the comp off duration, then Submit and wait for approval.
- Once approved, book it: click Apply Leave and choose the compensatory off leave type, or click Book Comp off on the Compensatory off tab.
- To ask for extra days credited, go to Leave > Leave Grant > Add Request, choose the leave type, the Effective from date, the number of days and a reason. If it meets your company's rules it's approved automatically; otherwise it goes for approval.
- On duty (OD) isn't a leave type in Zoho People. It sits under Attendance: in the app open Attendance > On Duty > Add; on the web use the Request button under Attendance > My Data. Our Zoho People attendance guide has the full steps.
Cancel leave and track approval in Zoho People
Managers are notified by email and push notification and approve or reject the request in Zoho People. They can also raise leave for reportees from the Team tab. Admins can raise requests for any employee from Operations.
To cancel, open Leave > Views (or the Leave Requests tab), click the request, then Cancel and confirm with Yes. For a multi-day leave you can tick only the dates you want to cancel, if your company allows partial cancellation. A cancellation reason may be mandatory.
For admins: add holidays and leave types in Zoho People
Only admins can add or edit holidays. Zoho's admin guide describes two methods:
- Go to Operations > Leave > Holidays.
- Click Add Holidays and enter the name, date and whether it's a full or half day, then choose who it applies to by location or shift.
- Or open the Add Holidays drop-down, choose Holidays Gallery and pick a region to load its list of holidays.
- Use location-based holidays for state holidays such as Pongal or Onam; shift-based holidays take precedence over location-based ones.
- For leave types, open Settings (top right) > Leave Tracker or Time Off and add a leave type or policy with its entitlement, accrual, reset and applicability. Zoho's menu names have changed between versions, so follow the labels on your screen.
Zoho People leave request problems
- Leave type not listed: it doesn't apply to your location, department or employment type. Ask HR to check its applicability.
- Insufficient balance error: the admin can allow applying beyond the balance in the leave type's advanced settings, with the extra days treated as LOP, or grant days through Leave Grant.
- No Compensatory off tab: comp off hasn't been enabled for your organisation.
- No half-day option: half and quarter days depend on the leave type and your permissions.
- Request stuck as pending: approval sits with your reporting manager; a reminder usually works faster than reapplying.
Applying leave in Attend Mitra, and whether to switch
Probably not, if leave is your only pain point and you're settled on Zoho. Attend Mitra makes more sense when you also want face- or GPS-verified mobile attendance at a lower per-employee cost, a 14-day trial and Indian payroll in the same app. Our leave management features page lists what's included, and this guide to Indian private-company leave policies helps whichever tool you pick.
For comparison, Attend Mitra keeps leave as a separate ₹9 per employee per month module (before 18% GST), and employees apply from the mobile app:
- Open Leave in the Attend Mitra employee app and select Request Leave.
- Choose start and end dates, leave type and reason, then submit.
- Edit or cancel while the request is still pending; managers approve from Leaves / Requests on the web console.
- See the leave request help article for the manager view and leave policies.
