How to apply leave in Keka: the short answer
To apply leave in Keka on the web, go to Me, then Leave, and click Request Leave on the summary page. Choose the dates and leave type, pick full days or a half day, write a note and submit. In the Keka app, tap the Apply Leave icon on the home screen and fill in the same details.
Your request then goes to your manager, and the leave types you see (casual, sick, earned, floater and so on) are the ones your company’s leave plan gives you.
Attend Mitra isn’t affiliated with Keka; we make a competing HR app, and these steps come from Keka’s own help center.
Apply leave on the Keka web portal
On a laptop or desktop, the leave form sits in your own profile rather than in a separate leave menu.
- Sign in to your company’s Keka portal and open Me, then Leave.
- On the Summary page, click Request Leave.
- Select the dates and the leave type.
- Choose Full days, or Custom to take the first or second half of the start or end date.
- Write a note. Keka makes the note mandatory; notifying colleagues is optional.
- Submit. The request shows under pending requests until your manager acts on it.
Apply leave in the Keka app
The Keka app has two routes to the same form. Use whichever is quicker for you.
- From the home screen, tap Apply Leave. If you choose Specific Dates on the calendar, the app shows which teammates are already off.
- Pick the leave type, add a note and anyone you want to notify, then submit.
- Or open the Me tab, go to Time and the Clock In/Out page, tap the three dots at the top right and choose Leave.
- For a half day, choose 1st half or 2nd half before submitting.
How to apply WFH, OD and permission in Keka
Work from home, on duty and short permissions are attendance requests in Keka, not leave, so they live under Me, then Attendance, in the Actions card. The options vary with your company’s setup.
- Work From Home: pick the date(s) and session, enter a reason, optionally notify colleagues and submit. If you need only a few hours, tick the hourly WFH option, if your policy allows it.
- On Duty: use it when you’re out of the office for official work, such as a client visit or a site inspection.
- Partial Day: this is Keka’s route for what many Indian offices call permission or short leave, for late arrival or leaving early. Enter the reason and duration.
- All three follow the approval chain your admin set, and your admin can limit how often you raise them or ask for attachments.
How to add comp off in Keka
If you worked on a weekend, a public holiday or beyond your regular hours, you can ask for compensatory off.
- Open Me, then Leave.
- Below Apply Leave, click Request Credit for Compensatory Off.
- Select the date(s) you worked extra. Tick half day if you want only half a comp off.
- Click Confirm. The credit is added once your manager approves it.
- If your overtime was already approved, click Fetch pending comp-off credits below Apply Leave to pull it in.
Check your Keka leave balance, holidays and floater leave
Your leave balance is on the summary page under Me, then Leave. Click View details on any leave type to see how the balance was built up and used. To see the holiday list for the year, use the Holidays widget on the Keka home screen and click View All; the app also has a year filter for past and upcoming holidays.
Holidays in Keka are either mandatory or floater. Floater holidays are optional days, such as regional festivals, and your company sets how many you can take in a year. If you’re writing that policy yourself, our private-company leave policy guide covers typical numbers.
How to cancel leave in Keka
How you cancel depends on whether the leave is pending, approved for a future date, or already in the past.
- Pending: under Pending Leave Requests, click the three dots, choose Cancel Leave, enter a reason and click Confirm.
- Approved, future date: scroll to Leave History and use Actions, then Cancel Leave.
- Approved, past date: you can’t cancel it yourself. Ask your reporting manager or HR admin, who can cancel it from your profile.
- HR admins: cancel from the employee’s profile under Time, then Leave. Keka keeps a cancelled leave in reports and history, while Delete Leave removes it entirely, so cancel unless you’re fixing a mistake. Admins can also apply leave or WFH on an employee’s behalf in an emergency.
Applying leave in Attend Mitra instead
In Attend Mitra, leave is a separate module (₹9 per employee per month before 18% GST) that works alongside attendance. Employees request leave from the app and managers approve it in the web console.
If Keka already runs your payroll and performance reviews, its leave module will cover most needs. Attend Mitra fits teams that want simple leave management for small businesses priced per employee. Marking attendance is covered in our Keka attendance walkthrough, the cost question in our look at Keka’s pricing, and other tools in our guide to attendance in popular HR apps. The Attend Mitra steps:
- Open Leave in the employee app and select Request Leave.
- Choose the dates, leave type and reason, then submit.
- Your manager approves or rejects it under Leaves / Requests, with a calendar view of who else is off.
- You can edit or cancel the request while it’s still pending.
