How to mark attendance in an HR app: the short answer
In almost every HR app, you mark attendance the same way: sign in with the login your employer created, tap the clock-in button on the home or attendance screen, and pass whatever check your company switched on (a selfie, your GPS location, a geofence around the site, or a shared kiosk). You clock out the same way when your shift ends. If a punch is missed, you raise a regularization or correction request and your manager approves it.
What differs is the name of the button, where it sits and which checks run. This guide puts the ten tools that most often appear in Google India results for attendance software side by side, with a link to a full walkthrough for each. Attend Mitra isn't affiliated with any of these vendors; we make a competing attendance app, and each linked guide lists the vendor's own help pages it was based on, checked in October 2026.
Where the clock-in button is in each app
Your company's HR admin decides which of these options you see, so labels can differ slightly from the steps below.
- greytHR: tap Sign In on the app's home screen, or use Sign In under the date widget on the ESS web Home page. Full steps in marking attendance in greytHR.
- Keka: on the web, go to Me, then Attendance, and click Web Clock-In; on the app, open the Me tab and tap clock in under Attendance. See the Keka clock-in walkthrough.
- Zoho People: click the green Check-in button under Attendance on the web, or tap Check In on the app's Attendance tab. See Zoho People check-in and regularization.
- HROne: tap Mark Attendance on the app's home screen and submit, inside the geofence and with a live photo if your company requires them. See the HROne app attendance guide.
- factoHR: sign in to the factoHR ESS app with your employee code, then punch from the app. See using the factoHR employee app.
- HRMantra: sign in to the HRMGlobal app (HRMantra's app name in the stores) or Client Login on hrmantra.com with the details HR gave you. See the HRMantra login guide.
- Jibble: open the Time Clock screen and tap Clock In; shared tablets can run as a kiosk. See setting up Jibble for attendance.
- SalaryBox: log in with your registered mobile number and the code sent on WhatsApp, set a PIN, then tap Punch-In. See how the SalaryBox app works.
- PagarBook: staff tap Punch In in the staff app and swipe to submit; owners add staff and shifts from the app or web dashboard. See the PagarBook setup guide.
- ubiAttendance: the admin creates the account and adds employees, who then mark attendance from the app. See how ubiAttendance works and what it costs.
The checks that decide whether your punch is accepted
Most failed punches come from one of these checks, not from the app itself. Knowing which one your company uses tells you what to fix.
- Selfie or face recognition: the app compares your photo with the one on file, so it needs camera access, decent light and an up-to-date face photo. Our explainer on how face recognition attendance works covers why matches fail.
- Geofence: you must be inside a set radius around the office or site. Turn on precise location and wait for the GPS fix before you tap the button.
- GPS location capture or live tracking: common for field staff; the app records where you clocked in, and some plans track location during the shift.
- Kiosk or shared device: one tablet at the gate where staff punch by face, QR code or PIN, useful where workers don't carry smartphones.
- Web clock-in: allowed only if HR enables it, and sometimes only from the office network.
If your attendance is missing or shows absent
Every app on this list has some form of correction request. greytHR and Keka call it regularization, Zoho People supports regularization from the attendance view, and SalaryBox lets admins correct punch times. The request goes to your manager or HR, and once approved the day is counted for payroll.
Raise it the same day if you can: most companies set a cut-off before payroll closes. If you manage attendance, our guide to the attendance regularization process and policy explains how to set limits so that corrections don't turn into a loophole.
- Check that you're signed in to the right company account and that the app is updated.
- Allow camera and precise location for the app, and switch off battery saver while you punch.
- If the app says you're outside the geofence, step outside the building for a better GPS fix, then try again.
- Still failing: raise a regularization request with the actual time and a short reason, and tell your manager.
- Locked out: password resets for employee accounts usually go through your HR admin, not the vendor's support team.
Applying for leave in the same apps
Leave, on duty (OD), work from home and comp off usually sit next to attendance in the same app. Step-by-step guides:
Which of these apps are free?
Employee apps are free to download for all ten tools, but the employer pays for most of them. Here is what each vendor listed in October 2026, before 18% GST:
- Jibble: free forever for unlimited users; details in is Jibble really free.
- PagarBook: marking attendance is free; salary, PF and ESI or tracking cost ₹499–₹1,398 per staff member a year. See PagarBook's free and paid plans.
- Zoho People: free for up to 5 users, without attendance; paid editions about ₹48–₹192 per user a month on annual billing. See Zoho People's free plan explained.
- greytHR: no free plan; a 7-day trial, then from ₹2,495 a month for 50 employees (attendance starts on the ₹4,495 Growth plan). See greytHR's plans and trial.
- SalaryBox: a 7-day trial, then Starter at ₹1,350 a month plus ₹27 per staff member, billed quarterly. See SalaryBox pricing in detail.
- Keka: paid, with unpublished prices and a setup fee. See what Keka costs.
- ubiAttendance: a 7-day trial, then a paid subscription from 5 employees. HRMantra, HROne and factoHR's attendance plans are paid too.
Marking attendance in Attend Mitra
We make Attend Mitra, an attendance app for teams that clock in from offices, sites, shops and the field. Employees use the Android or iPhone app, and the punch still records without signal and syncs later through offline mode. The flow:
- Your admin adds you as an employee and you sign in to the Attend Mitra app.
- Open the app and clock in from the home screen, as shown in clocking in from the mobile app.
- Pass the checks your company enabled: face verification, the GPS geofence or office Wi-Fi.
- If a punch fails, follow the clock-in troubleshooting steps or ask your admin to fix the record.
Choosing an attendance app for your own team
If you're the one picking the tool, compare it on how staff actually clock in (phone, kiosk or biometric machine), whether payroll runs in the same product, and the cost at the headcount you'll have in a year. Our comparison of 10 attendance tools used in India puts prices and checks side by side, and Attend Mitra's per-employee module prices start at ₹29 per employee a month for Attendance, or ₹41.40 with face, GPS and Wi-Fi checks, with a 14-day free trial.
